Randy Owen: Braid My Hair video + song

Written by Chris Gray and Brent Wilson, "Braid My Hair" is the first song either writer has ever had released as a single. Gray had been a teacher in a children's hospital, helping the kids keep up with their schoolwork while they were in treatment for cancer and other conditions. He often witnessed the side effects of chemotherapy and knew kids – especially girls – wanted to be able to braid their hair again.
In a creative twist of fate, the writers tracked down Randy's mother and sent the song to her in hopes she would listen to it and pass it along to her son. She loved the song and told a reluctant Randy he really needed to listen to it. "I tried every way I could think of to get the song to Randy with no luck," said Gray. "I finally thought, 'I'll just try mama!' I'm beyond excited about this."
"I listened to the song four or five times and thought, 'wow, what a song,'" Randy recalls. "The song is so real, and I've seen this lived out time and time again with the kids at St. Jude. It's an incredible story done in song." We gave "Braid My Hair" music video by Randy Owen a listen and yeah, it's a nice song (February, 2008). Ahhh cool, finally an oldie and classic song. This song will never leave the airwaves so bookmark this single. Never forget..

I just heard this song on my way home this afternoon and almost had to pull over when it got to the mention of the little girl donating her own hair. I've had the privilege of donating my hair to Locks of Love twice and will probably grow it out again in the near future. I've been privileged to do that and to help raise funds for the Leukemia Society and United Way. I do this in honor of my son Aaron who passed away 22 years ago from leukemia. Randy you did a beautiful job with this song and it's great that it got to you because I can't imagine anyone else singing it. Thank You for this and God Bless.

My daughter, Katelyn, was born in August of 2007. That is where are journey in the Neonatal ICU started. She was taken to the NICU for a variety of reasons, most of them stemming from contracting a very life- threatening virus while in utero. Katie ended up calling the hospital her home for the first 4 1/2 months of her life Her hospitalization included approximately 45 platelet infusions, 5 red blood cell transfusions, going from the CPAP to the nasal canula for her oxygen needs, having a permanent feeding tube placed, having a central line placed in her chest, and being administered a 6 week dose of an experimental drug. Many of the thoughts and questions in this song are those that my husband and I pondered over for those first scary months. This song is extremely touching and captures many of the actions, beliefs, and outlooks that many of the sick kids and parents that we have met, described feeling. Excellent song! - Kelly
