Rated R 'Da Ghetto Psychic' album

Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the 2002 World Super Bowl Champion's, Busch Gardens and Baseball Spring Training are all illustrious attractions in Tampa, Florida. But, you really haven't experienced Tampa until you've rolled with Tampa's most unique and mind-blowing attraction of all - Rated R. Rated R doesn't stand for explicit, he's simply Representin' All Tampa Every Day in Da Ghetto Psychic, his debut release on Universal Records.

"When I say my style is ghetto, I'm talking and writing about the whole ghetto, from the hustler to the lady who sells candy out the house," says Rated R. "I try to give you everything and put it to a jamming beat."

Just like a map, his philosophy led him to success with his first single "In Here Ta Nite." As the first stop on the hood life tour, "In Here Ta Nite" was catapulted to club-favorite-status as the track struck a chord with party goers with its hard driving rhythms and Rated R's trademark growl. Radio gained notice of the mid-tempo groove and put the single in heavy rotation. It quickly became one of the most requested songs in the Southeast region.

Juxtapose Rated R's Southern charm - he says m'am - against hard-core lyrics spit out in his rough and rugged vocals and you get a wickedly fierce 22-track album with a mixture of skits and funk-drenched cuts. The diversity in his musical revelations and melodic tones elevates Da Ghetto Psychic above the usual ride or die hip-hop fare. It can be felt from coast to coast identifying with people and situations from every walk of life.

"Da Ghetto Psychic is an album that any grown-up can listen to and have a good time," says Rated R. "You can party as wild as you want with this one."

To ensure hits, Rated R enlisted the musical talents of Too $hort, Lil Jon, Jazze Pha (P-Diddy, Baby, Field Mob) and the Da 2-4-1 Family. On the coarse, yet sexy ghetto ballad, "Gotta Girl" featuring super producer Jazze Pha, Rated R slows things down with a quick pit stop into the realm of thug love. Rated R's voice remains the dominant instrument as your head nods and the easy flute soars and crest beneath the vocals.

No tour of the hood would be complete without shout outs to those representin' to the fullest. Rated R shows his love for his hometown in the cut "Represent." It's sure to become an anthem that will rock any party with its addictive hook. As with all of the tracks on the album, it's sample free.

The seeds for this record were planted more than 15 years ago when a young Rodney at age 9, used to watch his uncle DJ at various house parties. He was spoon fed on the Funkadelics, Parliament, Marvin Gaye and the Motown sound. You can hear the funk influences mixed in with the southern flavored rap on a number of tracks.

Rated R, took the mic at age 15 and began his career in rap with Jam Pony Express and Bass Style DJ's. He also flexed his lyrical ability by battling emcees in local competitions. His notoriety helped him to open for Trick Daddy, Outkast, Mystikal, Trina, Nate Dogg, Juvenile, and most recently Ja Rule.

Rated R tells stories many can relate to, whether it's street life, thug love or just having a good time. He refers to himself as Da Ghetto Psychic because he has the gift to create tomorrow's music that you want to hear today.
