Austin-by-way-of-Denton, TX's Riverboat Gamblers announce 2009 tour plans including a spot on the highly anticipated Rise Against/Rancid tour that commences in June hitting cities in the U.S. and Canada. The band is heading out on the road in support of their new album, Underneath the Owl, released March 10th via Volcom Entertainment. The sonic assault that is Underneath The Owl was recorded and produced by the "band ruining Famous Hollywood Producer" Mudrock. There will be giveaways by Volcom and the Gamblers including signed copies of the new record, "Choppy" 7"'s, CDs, shirts, and more!
Dubbed one of the best live bands by both Rolling Stone and SPIN, the Gamblers - Mike Wiebe (vocals), Fadi El-Assad (lead guitar), Ian MacDougall (rhythm guitar), Rob Marchant (bass), and Eric Green (drums) have shared the stage with both new and old punk legends including Against Me!, Rancid, Eagles of Death Metal, Horrorpops, Rollins Band, X, Joan Jett and Valient Thorr.
"The title "Underneath the Owl." is a reference to the Frost Bank tower," says Mike Wiebe. Look at the downtown tower catty-corner if you've never noticed how much it looks like an owl. That's the non-metaphorical meaning. It's also about living underneath these great, controlling riches. We're all like mice."
"Owl's," genesis is a lot different than the previous record, "To the Confusion of Our Enemies." Andrew Murdoch did the last record as well, but I got to do a lot of work just myself. "Owl" also has its own set of tricks. "We got (X drummer) D.J. Bonebreak to play vibraphone on 'Robots May Break Your Heart." The band got to know Bonebreak when the Gamblers joined X for a six-week tour. "Every night I got to go out and sing 'The World's a Mess, It's in My Kiss.' You never want to meet your heroes, but they were so nice. (X singer) John Doe became a good friend. I still call him about music business stuff."
The single, "Choppy, Yet Sincere Apology" impacts Rock on March 24th.

more Riverboat Gamblers information
In the wake of a somewhat checkered past, one that conjures up images of broken teeth and lacerated body parts, rogue Christmas trees and faulty trailer doors, Austin-by-way-of-Denton, TX’s Riverboat Gamblers return this coming Spring 2009 with a new album, “Underneath The Owl”.
Beginning November 17th, 2008, Riverboat Gamblers will release the first single, “A Choppy, Yet Sincere Apology” from their new album and encourage fans and casual freeloaders alike to download the DRM-free mp3 from the band’s own website.
Singled out by Rolling Stone’s David Fricke as one of the “Top 5 Bands at SXSW” in 2006 and later proclaimed #15 of the “25 Greatest Live Bands Right Now” by Spin Magazine, the Riverboat Gamblers have cultivated a fanatical and even somewhat celebrity following with their rowdy, energetic live shows.
Originally formed in 1997, the Gamblers built a local following and busted out of the Denton TX college scene in 2001 on the back of their self-released 7” single “Jenna Is A No Show”. With that the band began to take the show from the dives bars and house parties of UNT on to the rest of the country. Austin punk legend Tim Kerr produced their self-titled debut album that was releasedon the D.C. based Vile Beat Records. A couple years later, despite rabid major-label interest (in part derived from an explosive set at 2003’s South by Southwest festival), the Gamblers released their second album "Something To Crow About" through San Francisco’s Gearhead Records. In 2006 the band recorded and released their debut for Volcom Entertainment, “To The Confusion Of Our Enemies”, and hit the road with Against Me!, Eagles of Death Metal, Horrorpops, The Rollins Band, X, Joan Jett and co-headlined the inaugural Volcom Tour in the U.S. with label mates, Valient Thorr.
Riverboat Gamblers “Underneath The Owl” was recorded and produced by the “band ruining Famous Hollywood Producer” Mudrock, and will arrive in stores and online March 10, 2009.
