For more than three decades, Robert Plant has occupied a singular, hugely influential role in modern music, his signature voice and charismatic presence putting an unmistakable stamp on music of extraordinary innovation and energy.

Atlantic Records has announced the forthcoming release of the first-ever compilation of solo material by Robert Plant, entitled "SIXTY SIX TO TIMBUKTU." Due November 4th, the 2-CD anthology follows the release earlier this year of the #1-charting, multi-platinum "LED ZEPPELIN DVD" and "HOW THE WEST WAS WON" collections. The 35 tracks on "SIXTY SIX TO TIMBUKTU" span the full range and depth of Plant's exceptional, groundbreaking work outside of Zeppelin - from his first pre-Zep single in 1966 to a live recording made earlier this year in Timbuktu. Included are original album tracks, rarities, and previously unissued material - all remastered from the original analog master tapes.

Since the disbanding of Led Zeppelin in 1980, Plant has forged a solo career of remarkable invention, exploring wide-ranging, often unexpected terrain. As he says, "I have prided myself in constantly seeking and always changing - to continue the tradition that we were proud of in Led Zeppelin: that we should always move the music and constantly try to move the intention and the topic and the whole game. The most important thing is to satisfy your own lust for music and creation rather than everybody else's need and expectation."

Disc One of "SIXTY SIX TO TIMBUKTU" features a selection of tracks from Plant's solo albums, which have been greeted with widespread critical acclaim and multi-platinum success. Featured are such career highlights as "Tall Cool One," "Big Log," "Ship Of Fools," "29 Palms," and "Little By Little," as well as the Honeydrippers' "Sea Of Love." Also included is the previously unissued "Upside Down."

Disc Two is a fan's dream come true, a treasure trove of rarities, previously unreleased material, UK-only bonus tracks, and various songs recorded for soundtracks, tribute albums, and other special projects. The disc opens with five tracks recorded by Plant before he joined Led Zeppelin and long coveted by collectors, including a cover of The Young Rascals' "You Better Run," released in 1966 under the group name Listen; "Our Song," a solo single released in 1967; two demos by The Band Of Joy, which also featured future Zeppelin drummer John Bonham - covers of "Hey Joe" and the Buffalo Springfield classic, "For What It's Worth"; and a song written and recorded with British blues legend Alexis Korner, "Operator."

Other Disc Two gems include: "Philadelphia Baby," recorded under the Crawling Kingsnakes moniker, with Dave Edmunds on guitar and Phil Collins on drums; "Let's Have A Party," recorded for "THE LAST TEMPTATION OF ELVIS" tribute album; a cover of "Louie Louie" recorded for the "WAYNE'S WORLD 2" soundtrack; "Life Begins Again," recorded in 2001 with the Afro Celt Soundsystem; and the Ahmet Ertegun/Jerry Wexler classic, "Let The Boogie Woogie Roll," recorded in 2002 for Jools Holland's "SMALL WORLD BIG BAND VOLUME TWO - MORE FRIENDS." The whole affair concludes with "Win My Train Fare Home," recorded live this year at The Festival in the Desert, Essakane, north of Timbuktu, Sahara, Mali.
