The week of February 18, Cabrera returns with the radio release of “S’ S’ Say” to Top 40 and Hot AC, his gift for the captivating pop hook as strong as ever while taking charge of his musical direction to reveal new growth and even greater dimensions to his talent.
“S’ S’ Say” serves as an apt metaphor for the changes in Cabrera’s music and career since he first emerged in 2001 as a 19-year-old musical prodigy from Dallas with his self-released indie album Elm St. to sign with Atlantic Records and release two albums that established him as a pop music force for the new millennium. The song’s lyrics recount his experiences within the star-making machinery and his decision to take control of his creative output and express the music and feelings in his soul.
“I was on the road, traveling, and I felt like I had to play a role,” Cabrera recounts. “I had to be happy in a moment, but I couldn't do it anymore. I had to say what I wanted to say instead of holding my tongue all the time.” In order to do so, Cabrera channeled the fruits of his million-selling record success into recording his next album independently. “I really wanted to take my time and not have a huge company telling me what I should be making,” he says. “I wanted to really make a diverse entire album as opposed to just a single or two — I want a ride, a journey.”
