Saosin to release In Search of Higher Ground
They've been headlining the PacSun tour all fall and are hopefully having a well deserved break as these boys have been very busy! Saosin, who originally formed in 2003 in California, are a standard name in rock music today, and just put more fire behind that statement with their release of the second full length album 'In Search of Solid Ground'.

The band also played Warped tour main stage for their fourth summer on the tour and have switched to a new record label, Virgin. They have toured all over the world to exotic places like Bali and Indonesia and have played with such greats as My Chemical Romance, Alexisonfire, Linkin Park and Senses Fail just to mention a few.
They started in 2003 with Anthony Green as the lead singer, but after that short time, brought on the current front man Cove Reber and have found many levels of success since then! At their stop in Boston at the House of Blues on Decemeber 2nd, I got the chance to interview Chris Sorenson, who plays bass and keyboards and for the band along with providing the screaming in their tracks. Beau also joined in at parts, especially regarding albums he's been listening too lately. We covered everything from Chris's first show which was definitely a big one to how Warped ended up going for them.
Saosin interview
by Colleen Johnson
[Q]uestion: What's your favorite part of touring?
Chris: I like seeing new places every time. When you play a show, it's nice to know your way around other cities too. So yeah, the traveling part.
[Q]: How did Warped Tour end up going for you guys?
Chris: Warped was awesome. We've done that tour quite a few times so it's kind of pretty routine, you know but it's good.
[Q]: If you could choose any three bands to go on tour with, who would they be?
Chris: I'd say Jimmy Eat World, I really like Jimmy Eat World, Oasis and Gwar. Maybe Rancid.
[Q]: What's the craziest thing a fan has ever given you?
Chris: I don't know about a fan but another band gave us chia pets one time at the end of the tour.
[Q]: Your newest album, 'In Search of Solid Ground' just came out a few months ago. How has that been doing so far?
Chris: It's been great. We just kind of started touring in promotion so we've been playing a lot of new stuff and kids have seemed to like it.
[Q]: How do you go about the songwriting process for these albums?
Chris: Every song is totally different. We all come up with part of it.
[Q]: If you were to collaborate with any other band on this tour who would it be and what would the song be about?
Chris: We were trying to actually do a full collab during the show, like on our last song but it didn't really work out. We weren't really able to meet up pre- tour. Um, I don't know. They're all awesome bands, just totally different.
[Q]: What was the first show you went to as a kid?
Chris: Michael Jackson on the Bad tour.
[Q]: Who are some of your bigger influences, maybe personally or for Saosin as a whole?
Chris: If you asked us all, you'd get like a 100% different answers. Um, I like heavy guitar playing. Most of us came from hardcore backgrounds.
[Q]: What are you personally listening to? Any new stuff?
Chris: Not personally. Any new records you like, Beau?
Beau: The new John Mayer Record.Yeah, Love battle or whatever (Battle Studies). That one's really good, like that one a lot. Uh, I listen to a whole bunch of stuff. The new Saosin is pretty good!
[Q]: If you were asked to, what would you cover for the new Punk Goes? It's Classic Rock.
Chris: That's a tough one. Maybe a Led Zeppelin song. Covers are a hard thing because any song that you would want to cover is already done so well.
[Q]: Are there any more music plans we can look forward to?
Chris: Touring.
Check out the boys on myspace and watch for them on tour to some pretty international places for now like Bali, Indonesia and Japan in the new year. Hopefully they come back to our side of the world soon enough and pick up the new album..it's worth it! It was featured as one of the most anticipated albums of 2009 by Alternative Press!
Saosin biography
Bracingly crunchy and soaringly melodic, vibrating with all-out rocking ensemble work and emotional urgency, the second album release In Search of Higher Ground by Orange County, CA-based rock quintet SAOSIN has been set for release September 8, 2009, following a barnstorming summer playing this year's Vans Warped Tour.
Maintaining a hair-raising energy level throughout, the album, IN SEARCH OF SOLID GROUND, is the much-awaited end product of writing, tracking and mix sessions that Saosin fans have witnessed online in real time since last summer, with songs written and tracks demoed in the Costa Mesa, CA studio of global youth brand Hurley, where they self-produced several final album tracks.
In early 2009, Saosin worked with producer Butch Walker (Sevendust, Fall Out Boy, P!nk) which resulted in 5 songs on In Search Of Higher Ground. They also worked with John Feldman (The Used, Good Charlotte, Story Of The Year) who produced 2 tracks and with Lucas Banker/Logan Mader (Five Finger Death Punch, Soulfly, Machine Head) on 1 album track. Band guitarist Beau Burchell mixed all songs on In Search of Higher Ground.
In the run-up to the September release, the album will enjoy added advance visibility through an album download card promotion with Alternative Press, with cards sold onsite at the band's merchandise table, AP's Warped Tour tent, and on the magazine's website. The card bundles an AP subscription with a day-of-release album download, delivered by e-mail zip file, and two instant album track downloads, all for $15. Saosin will do numerous signing events at the AP tent through the summer, and banner ads will run online through the period.
Touching both the anthemic and the intimate, "I Keep My Secrets Safe" and "Deep Down" are early-album keynotes, and the style of IN SEARCH OF SOLID GROUND, both finessed and hammer-fisted, emerges in the moody, insightful and unsparing "Changing," "The Alarming Sound of a Still Small Voice," "It's All Over Now," "What Were We Made For?" and "On My Own." Along the way are royal kiss-offs like "Why Can't You See" and "Say Goodbye," a balladic "Nothing Is What It Seems," and the complex, building 8:30 album closer "Fireflies."
Saosin will play the Hurley stage for the balance of this summer's 2009 Vans Warped Tour (full schedule below). The band will continue to use Twitter to keep in touch with fans, tweeting stage times daily, and also running album listening session contest at select Warped stops through Twitter. It is the band's fourth go-round with the festival since 2004. Veterans of the Rockstar Taste of Chaos tours, 2007's Projekt Revolution tour and April, 2009's Bamboozle Left festival, Saosin has shared the stage memorably with such bands as AFI, Avenged Sevenfold, My Chemical Romance, Incubus, Taking Back Sunday, Underoath and many others in recent times. The band also has Come Close, a live CD/DVD set, to its credit.
Praised by Rolling Stone for its "sheer intensity," "powerful" by the LA Times and as "massively buzzworthy" by Alternative Press, Saosin's first self-titled Capitol album has sold over 300,000 units since its 2006 release. Three new songs, combined with bonus acoustic tracks, from the 2008 Hurley on-line sessions were released as The Grey EP, sold on the band's fall tour with Underoath, and on-line exclusively at hurley.com.
