Atlanta native Shawty Putt has signed a deal with Razor & Tie Entertainment via Lil Jon’s BME Recordings label. The exclusive worldwide multi-album agreement will jumpstart with promotions for the Lil Jon-produced buzz single “"Dat Baby (Don't Look Like Me)," which also features rapper Too $hort.

“Putt is one of the few artists that gets it,” explains Lil Jon. “He understands every aspect of this business. I have a lot of respect for him and I’m glad he is getting his chance to show the world what he can do!” “Dat Baby” takes its inspiration from the daytime talk show “The Maury Povich Show.” Razor & Tie and BME Recordings have released a new video for “Dat Baby” directed by Dale 'Rage' Restighini (Gym Class Heroes, DMX, Soulja Boy). Shawty Putt is currently in the studio recording his debut album to be produced by Lil Jon; the album is scheduled for release this fall.

    Shawty Putt

Shawty Putt was an original member of the famed Atlanta Attic Crew.  Along with Lil Jon, Shawty Putt has worked with Lil Scrappy, The Youngbloodz and producer Polow da Don.  He is featured on each of the Youngbloodz records and has toured with them.

    biography
Shawty Putt made the most of his opportunity. The Atlanta native wrote the insanely catchy hooks for the YoungBloodZ’s “Presidential” and Lil’ Scrappy’s “Gangsta, Gangsta,” so when Lil Jon was looking for writers to help him with his forthcoming CRUNK ROCK album, Shawty Putt was the logical choice. “He is one of the few artists that gets it,” Lil Jon says of Shawty Putt. “He understands every aspect of this business.”

Shawty Putt’s working relationship with Lil Jon has advanced to another level now that Lil Jon has produced Shawty’s smash single “Dat Baby (Don’t Look Like Me),” the lead single from Putt’s forthcoming debut album. The song, which takes a hilarious look at bogus paternity claims, was inspired by a real-life situation. “There was a little situation that came about and I went through the ringer,” Shawty Putt explains. “The test came back negative. Hence, the song ‘Dat Baby (Don’t Look Like Me).’ I just took it and put a little spin on it.”

It’s that spin, Shawty Putt’s ability to craft such an entertaining song out of a potentially painful experience, that makes him such a formidable artist and songwriter. On his album, Shawty Putt salutes clothes women prefer on “Gucci,” gets blunt when propositioning a woman he met at a bar on “Maybe” and details a salacious night at a strip club on “Can I Have Some Of It.”

Then there’s “I Don’t Want You,” a comical look at a girl whose strongest quality is her willingness to bleed her man dry. “They want everything for free,” Shawty says. “They want a ride to the store. They want me to bring beer over there. There are all kinds of people in and out of the house. It’s about dealing with trifling women, but it’s humorous the way I handled it.”

Growing up in Atlanta, Putt was surrounded by talented friends. After a brief stint in the Marines, he connected with members of the Dungeon Family (OutKast, Goodie Mob, Backbone, etc.) and the Attic Crew (Jim Crow, YoungBloodZ). Seeing the skill around him, Shawty started working on his writing skills, collaborating with his friends, appearing on their albums, touring with them and writing hooks for them.

So when Lil Jon called him to work, Shawty Putt was ready. After all, his knack for bringing a different perspective to his material makes him standout in a rap field crowded with copycat artists. “At one point in time in hip-hop, you could do anything you wanted to do,” Shawty Putt says. “Only until recently did it become that you could only do a gangster thing. I’m just trying to keep it about things your average homeboy down the street can relate to. It’s about being real in everyday situations that everyone goes through.”

It’s that refreshingly simple and authentic approach that endeared Shawty Putt to the YoungBloodZ, Lil’ Scrappy and Lil Jon. Now, it’s Shawty Putt’s time to shine. “I have a lot of respect for Shawty Putt,” Lil Jon says, “and I’m glad he is getting his chance to show the world what he can do.”
