Skindred is a band that has put their stamp on the metal/hard rock scene and given mainstream something different to listen too. The group hails from South Wales and has came up with their innovative sound by combining two music genres, a hardcore reggae singer with equally hardcore punk metal musicians. The band consists of vocalist Benji Webbe, bassist Daniel Pugsley, guitarist Mikey Dee, and drummer Dirty Arya.
Their debut LP, Babylon, (RCA) first appeared in 2002 and 2003, with sporadic success in parts of Europe and the U.S. metal underground. But it wasn't until a year or so later that the album really took off. Skindred re-released Babylon (Bieler Bros./Atlantic) in August 2004 which featured different cover art, and included newly recorded material in addition to the original, Howard Benson-helmed songs. Skindred then headed out on a series of tours with acts like Sevendust, Nonpoint, and Papa Roach, and never looked back.
In October of 2007 the group released their 2nd disc titled Roots Rock Riot under indie label Bieler Bros./Atlantic. The album was recorded at Bieler Bros. Studios in Pompano Beach, Florida, produced by Matt Squire (Panic! at the Disco), and mixed by Rick Will (who also mixed Skindred's debut album, Babylon).
Picking right up where their debut album left off Skindred has definitely found their own sound. It's an aggressive music with Benji Webbe going from clean vocals to sounding like a very angry Jamaican in mid verse. Displaying thundering strong beats and assertive guitars the two musical styles blend rhythmically together throughout this 12 track collection.
Skindred, have just wrapped up filming the video for "Trouble". Filmed in London at Greenford Studios, the video was helmed by Ray Moody of Visual Abuse.
"Trouble," the second single on "Roots Rock Riot" impacts Rock on September 23rd. This year the band has been selling out shows across Europe and garnering loads of high-level press, including being hailed as "The best live band in Britain" by Kerrang!
