Emerging from Buffalo's prestigious hardcore scene known for bands like Snapcase and Every Time I Die, Sleepaway offers music from the other side of the spectrum. Sleepaway combines shimmering guitar sounds with smooth vocals and piano melodies reminiscent of late 90's alt tock like The Gin Blossoms and The Goo Goo Dolls. Formed in the spring of 2005, with an average of 19, Sleepaway has been compared to the likes of indie giants Jimmy Eat World and The Get Up Kids.
After signing with No Milk Records, Sleepaway took the opportunity to open the "Your Town is Our Town" tour with Rookie of the Year. After that summer of 2005 tour, Sleepaway has played "Live at the Center" at the University of Buffalo promoting the Music Is Art campaign that was televised on UPN and SUNY TV stations.
New songs were written throughout the summer and fall of 2005 for their self titled debut (6/6/06). The full length was recorded with Doug White (Gym Class Heroes, AKAs) at Watchmen Studios in Lockport, New York. The album has been impressing listeners of all ages. Jeff Martin from This Day and Age (111/East West) lends a hand with guest vocals on the track "Who Needs the Radio When You Got Me".
Sleepaway has been picking up sponsors along the way to help them out on the road. Rockstar Energy Drink has been keeping the band hydrated on the road. SIT strings allows Alex, Mike and Ryan to change there strings before all there shows. Shawn is sponsored by two companies, Silver Fox Sticks and Kent Custom Drums.
Their love for vintage geea, alt rock, and meticulous musicianship are key elements driving this band to repeatedly perform and write each and every compositian. Their hard work is being reinforced with praise from listeners of all ages and tastes including Gary Malibut (Steve Miller Band), Robby Takac (Goo Goo Dolls), Kevin Ratterman (Elliot), and even a Buffalo Bills cheerleader who features the band in her online profile. With a diverse array of fans, Sleepaway is ready to show the world that Buffalo, NY has more to offer than hardcore, cold weather, and hot wings.
