Slow Train Soul is an eclectic European twosome that is already a sensation in London, Paris, Milan and Copenhagen. The voice of Slow Train Soul is Lady Z, a London-based, multi-ethnic jazz chanteuse with an ear for rhythm and a resonant vibrato that breathes life into the urban electro-pop mix of celebrated Danish uber-producer Morten Varano. The combination is a wholly unique blend of old school jazz and cutting edge electronica.

Lady Z and Morten Varano met 5 years ago after he saw her perform her solo acoustic jazz act in a London club. At that time, she had already earned a strong underground following under the moniker, Z Star. “She was able to incite a vibrant reaction out of a staid audience at an early show and I just had to work with her,” remembers Varano of their first meeting. She was later dubbed Lady Z by Chicago soul man Terry Callier, a former Chess recording artist. Varano and Lady Z began their musical relationship when Lady Z lent her vocals to a few tracks for Varano’s Grammy nominated project, Puddu Varano. The decision to record as a pair was a natural choice for both. “It was easy because we are both fire signs,” contemplates Lady Z “I love what he creates and vice versa.” As Slow Train Soul they have won fans across Europe with their captivating live performances, including a recent set at the Roskilde Festival where they played along with Fatboy Slim, Franz Ferdinand, The Hives, The Pixies, Santana, Wu Tang Clan and Zero 7.

The band's songs have already etched themselves on urban America’s consciousness, having been heard at hipster hotels, elegant boutiques and hot bars and restaurants as part of the prestigious Hotel Costes and Buddha Bar compilations.

The poignant lyrics reach for the underbelly of urban life, prostitution, murder, despair and broken, twisted love, while still echoing the deep tradition of Lady Z's Trinidadian roots. “I want music that effects a mood, music that people can identify with, like a collective thought, energy or experience,” Lady Z rhapsodizes “I want music for all of the senses.” Music to feel, music to see, an aural experience like nothing else.
