So They Say 'Life In Surveillance' album

There are few things harder to do in the music industry than to follow up a powerful debut release with an equal or better sophomore album, but the St. Louis-bred quintet known as So They Say has proven that it can be done. Have no fear, for their latest studio effort will not be leaving stereos of fans and critics alike anytime soon. "This album shows our growth. We just knew we could do more musically, we wanted to do more, and we have done more with the new material," Says vocalist/keyboardist Joseph Hamilton. "Life In Surveillance" will hit full force October 9 on Fearless Records.

It was only one year after forming when Joseph Hamilton, vocalist/guitarist David Schroeder, drummer Justin Hanson, and guitarist Nicholas Walters signed with Fearless Records in 2005. The promotional muscle of Fearless and regional appearances on the mid-western portion of the 2005 Vans Warped Tour launched So They Say out of St. Louis and into the eyes of the industry. After a busy winter the band headed into the studio with producer Matt Squire (Panic! At the Disco, The Receiving End of Sirens) to work on their debut full length "Antidote for Irony." "We wrote our songs, but Matt really made us buckle down and concentrate." A hard-working band, a dedicated label, and a focused producer paved a smooth road for So They Say as the summer of 2006 approached.

“Antidote for Irony” was released in March 2006 to critical acclaim. Critics and fans showed their love for So They Say by helping to make the band #1 on the PureVolume charts three weeks in a row. The band understood that a good album was not the only key to success so they quickly embarked on a vigorous touring schedule which included dates on the 2006 Vans Warped Tour as well as tours with Halifax, Sugarcult, A Static Lullaby, The Spill Canvas, and The Receiving End of Sirens, and the Bamboozle Festival in New Jersey.

With the continuing success of "Antidote For Irony," the band decided to ride the wave to Los Angeles, California to record, “Life in Surveillance" with producer Matt Hyde (Sum 41, No Doubt, Slayer). Vocalist David Schroeder says of Matt: "We meshed really well. We collaborated on ideas and recorded an awesome record we are really proud of.” After hearing all of the tracks it was instantly agreed that “Wake Me Up” would be the single. The song showcases how much the band has matured vocally and the opening guitar riff instantly demonstrates the bands musical progression. Now that their third Warped Tour is over, they are continuing on the road with Atreyu and Haste the Day. “We’re going to be playing our new songs and reaching new fans,” says Nick. “We’re pretty stoked; this is going to be an amazing tour.”

So They Say’s powerhouse guitars and dueling vocal hooks leave you no choice but to nod your head and sing along. "One thing I can say about our live show is that it is completely surreal," says Nick. "When we get on stage we turn into different people because we are super amped on our music and the fans. We feed off the crowd and it just creates an amazing experience every night.” So They Say gives us a glimpse at what true indie rock should sound like…and a reason to get out of our chairs and dance.
