Superstar Quamallah 'Invisible Man' album

The album is titled after the classic novel, “Invisible Man” by Ralph Ellison and features the standout singles “88 Soul” and “California Dreamin’” (video has over 165k views on YouTube) - The video also is included on this enhanced CD.

As Quamallah himself states: “My favorite time period for Hip Hop music was definitely between 1983 and 1994 with 1988 and 1993 being two years that standout as extremely impressive years musically and culturally. The fashion, slang, movies, t.v. shows, and vibe during those years was incredible. while totally submerged in the feelings and music of that entire time period, I went to work on “Invisible Man” and I am excited for people to hear the result!

It is an album that I would want to hear from some of my favorite artists of the past and present today. This is not a RETRO trip for me; this is me at my best lyrically and spiritually using the accessories of the 80’s and 90’s to fuel me. I am a ‘88 soul as the song states!”

Superstar Quamallah biography [written by himself]
I'm a soul brother from brooklyn, n.y. born during the 70’s era of black culture and the black power movement. My dad (r.i.p big john patton) helped to pioneer the soul-jazz music genre. His instrument was the organ. my mom (davene) is a fashion designer and currently owns her own line of jazz aroma-therapy products that use only natural ingredients – called “simply davene”.

I grew up studying the originators like herc, flash, hollywood, aj scratch, cold crush, bambaataa and the list continues. My generation was most prominent during the 1988 golden age with rakim, the juice crew, krs1, native tongue and the list doesn’t stop. I began as a graffiti artist, then break-dancing, to my main passion as a turntablist/dj. I also study the jazz and soul artists from the harlem renaissance era through the 70’s.

I play the drum machine like an instrument without the sequence/metronome/record feature. This gives my music an organic, soulful touch that I used to make the album, “godfood: the break-fast”. my lyrics as an emcee are simply honest. My first ep in ‘99, entitled “don’t call me john” on abb records, introduced my demo to the world of underground hiphop music. After experiencing many obstacles and frustrations with the commercialization of hiphop music I took a hiatus from making music until 2004.

I do my best to keep my music pure so the albums I do release can only be found as limited editions on cdbaby, online or through small independent companies with heart and soul so as to bypass the corporations who unfortunately are more concerned with selling units.

I currently teach courses at u.c. berkeley in the african american studies dept. On "hiphop culture and media appropriation" and I am working to establish an institute for grassroots artists within the university.

As well, I write screenplays with the assistance of my writing coach carla wilson. And I am engaged in film projects with my brother and outstanding director, troy warwell. My latest project was as lead actor in his independent film, "smit smatty", where I played the smooth, charismatic but outrageously violent protagonist, smit tucker.
