It's as straightforward as it could be. Drums, guitar, one vocal, so easy you could be forgiven for thinking that their sound would be simple, however 'When I Left Work Today' is one of the most original and challenging pieces of song writing to be heard this year. Its infectious chorus, spiteful lyrics and marching band drums will leave a deep imprint on the current alternative music scene. It's backed by 'The Man In Me' whose lazy, transatlantic lurch is buoyed by bursts of cowbell-heavy boogie, akin to the groove on singles by the Fall's early '80s 'two drummer' line-up. Perhaps.
Lifting their name from Ken Kesey's classic book 'One Flew Over The Cuckoos Nest' and taking inspiration from influences as diverse as Serge Gainsbourg, Joy Division, The Velvet Underground, Captain Beefheart, The Replacements, and Violent Femmes you can expect some seriously intense live shows. Having just returned from playing with the likes of The Young Knives, Sweden's Shout Out Louds and playing the Leeds Across the Tracks Festival, The Acutes will be tearing up and down the country in September and October promoting their debut single.
