New Collisions to release The Optimist

, Editor on July 13, 2010 | genre: rock

Boston’s New Collisions have only been around for a little over a year, and yet their resume reads like a new-wave, indie power pop dream. Discovered by Greg Hawkes of the Cars, touring with the B-52s and Blondie, and sharing the stage with The Morning Benders, Missing Persons, and You Say Party! We Say Die!, they went to record their debut LP, The Optimist, in the legendary Fort Apache Studios. Producers Sean Slade and Paul Kolderie, known for their work with the Pixies and Dinosaur Jr., chose The Optimist as their first project since the Dresden Dolls’2006 release, Yes, Virginia.

The New Collisions
Recorded in under10 days, New Collisions’guitarist Scott Guild and bassist Alex Stern took their gift of writing infectious tunes and used it to explore darker, more personal territory with The Optimist. With Sarah Guild’s electric vocals, Casey Gruttadauria on keys, and Zak Kahn on drums, the album takes the heartache and heartbreak of a desolate modern life through nine narrators and brings a sense of hope with its energetic sound. With praise from the likes of New York Magazine, CMJ, URB, Wonka Vision, Time Out New York,The Boston Globe and Herald, and after being named “best local band” by Improper Bostonianthe band has the accreditations to ensure they will not disappoint with The Optimist.

The Optimist’s first single, “Dying Alone” premiered exclusively on PopMatters, and is now free for you to listen, post, and share.

Looking for catharsis through the medium of dance-friendly punk that touches your heart and headstrings? New Collisions will be playing tracks off of The Optimist as part of the Boston Waterfront Series at Christopher Columbus Park on August 10th.
