The Raveonettes, the groundbreaking Danish rock band heralded by Rolling
Stone as part of the "Next Wave" of contemporary music...
... , will shake up the pop scene once again with the arrival of Pretty In Black, the group's new album, on Tuesday, May 3.
The Raveonettes will perform "Love In A Trashcan," the first single from
Pretty In Black, for the first time on American television on NBC's "Late Night with Conan O'Brien" on Wednesday, April 27.
The group's first new full-length album since 2003's critically-acclaimed Chain Gang of Love, Pretty In Black jettisons the fuzz-tone and distortion that characterized the group's earlier efforts while taking the band, and its fans, to a new level of harmonic intensity and sonic clarity on 12 new Raveonettes' originals--many of them straight-from-the-heart ballads (!) --and an emotionally potent cover of the 60s girl group pop classic, "My Boyfriend's Back," originally co-written for the Angels by the legendary producer Richard Gottehrer.
Gottehrer, who first worked with the Raveonettes on Chain Gang of Love, co-produced Pretty In Black with the Raveonettes' Sune Rose Wagner. The Raveonettes pay tribute to the group's musical influences with some very special guests on Pretty In Black: Maureen "Moe" Tucker, whose archetypa drum sound gave the Velvet Underground its primal pulse; Martin Rev, whose radical and revolutionary approach to electronics with his band Suicide, beginning in 1971, gave rise to electro-pop; and the iconic Ronnie Spector, whose soaring vocals with the Ronettes took Phil Spector's "Wall of Sound" into the heavens.
The Raveonettes new songs and freshly re-imagined sound are, as Rolling Stone's David Fricke puts it, "a whirlwind of ravishing noir and vintage-pop echo(ing) with Sune's deep affection for early rock & roll and girl-group bop coming through bright and clear."
