Kurt Coburn, Brandon Hancock and Andy McWilliams, otherwise known as the Scattered PAGES, met at a high school in a quiet little refinery town outside of Houston, Texas. A shared passion for rock ‘n roll brought the three young men together and they immediately went to forming garage bands, not the least of which was known as Deadwood Forest.

This ambitious, progressive rock ensemble featured Kurt on bass, Andy on drums, Ryan Guidry on guitar and Mitch Mignano on the keys. Their first album was made independently at the local college. To make their second release, Mellodramatic, the foursome went to Austin and Star Dog Studios. They recruited engineer Chris Cline and producer Mattias Olsson of Anglagard (Sweden).

Deadwood Forest disbanded before it realized its potential. By this time Andy had been playing lead guitar for Joe West and the Sinners and was touring extensively between Chicago, Austin and Santa Fe. Meanwhile, Kurt received a degree from the University of Texas and Mitch took to gambling. Ryan returned to Houston where Brandon had been writing much of the material that would form the song base for the Scattered PAGES. The two of them began performing under the name of Good People. In February of 2002 Kurt and Andy joined the Good People for a show and thus conceived the Scattered PAGES.

In 2003 the Scattered PAGES set up a studio in Andy’s attic and recorded their first full-length album, Meet the Americant, and then, as a follow-up to that, the EP, A Band of One’s Own. That fall they set out on a tour of the East Coast. The following year however was tumultuous and saw the passing of both Kurt and Ryan’s mothers, as well as Ryan’s departure from the group. Being, as they were, dependent on a fourth member, the new-found trio resolved to move Andy from drums to guitar. Yet the search for a replacement drummer was frustrating and fruitless.

In the summer of 2004 the Scattered PAGES began rearranging existing material and writing new material. They booked another East Coast tour, this time enlisting Mitch Mignano to play keyboard and guitar. The following fall Kurt, Brandon and Andy began recording their second full-length, Lazy Are the Skeletons. These sessions caught the attention of old friend Chris Cline at Three Ring Records.

In August of 2005 the Scattered PAGES were invited to San Francisco to play for the record label. The show was a success and Three Ring was excited to sign the band on to press and release Lazy Are the Skeletons. The band returned to Texas and continued work on the new album. However, progress was frustrated by what had become an all-too-familiar recording environment. So, the boys bought some whiskey and spent a week in the pine woods of East Texas, where they subsequently made another EP, This is Where the Story Ends. This they pressed themselves but released the record in collaboration with Three Ring Records in May of 2006. The Scattered PAGES will tour the West Coast in support of Lazy Are the Skeletons in October, 2006.
