First there were the Three Tenors, then the (five) Irish Tenors, and now some blokes from Australia have taken it to the next level—TEN Tenors—

    The Ten Tenors

... and they’re ready to take America by storm with their first U.S. major label release, LARGER THAN LIFE, available September 21 from Rhino Entertainment.

Following in the footsteps of crossover successes like Josh Groban, Andrea Boccelli, Charlotte Church and others, The Ten Tenors cover a wide range of music and musical styles in their live shows and on record. LARGER THAN LIFE highlights the smooth, beautiful sounds created by the blending of the members’ voices. Ten voices form a powerful yet gentle instrument capable of conveying a wide range of emotions. But while The Ten Tenors are classically trained singers, they bring a warmth, intimacy and youthful exuberance to their material that makes it imminently appealing and immediately accessible.

LARGER THAN LIFE offers a variety of styles and songs that invite the listener escape into the beauty and comfort of the music of The Ten Tenors. There are originals written by members of the group (“Cast In Stone” by Craig Hendry, “Thunder Point” by David Kidd, and “The Way Away From You,” written by the group’s accompanist, Steven Baker), a classic Carlos Gardel tango (“Por Una Cabeza”), an interpretation of the Verdi aria “Va Pensiero,” and the Tenors’ soaring version of Vangelis’ “Conquest Of Paradise.”

A sinewy blend of Indian percussion, an upbeat rhythm track, the mysterious sound of the didgeridoo, and intertwining vocals come together to create “Sundance,” a powerhouse of a song, one of LARGER THAN LIFE’S highlights. The album closes with The Ten Tenors’ version of Queen’s classic “Bicycle Race,” recorded for the 2004 Tour de France. You’ve got to hear it to believe it.

The CD comes with a bonus DVD of live footage of the Tenors performing everything from a medley of Italian arias to Abba’s “Dancing Queen.” The DVD gives a taste of the classy, yet casual fun that is a Ten Tenors’ live show.

Formed in Brisbane, Australia in 1995 while still university students studying for opera careers, The Ten Tenors mounted their first full-length show in 1998 and set out on an extensive Australian tour during that academic year. The group leapt to international attention in 2002 as the surprise guest artists at the Eurovision Grand Prix de la Chanson held in Kiel, Germany. Since then their live show has been winning over audiences around the world.

In typically Australian manner, The Ten Tenors never take themselves too seriously, so while they are capable of singing dramatic, moving ballads, they can also cut loose with an Abba, Bee Gees or Beach Boys song in their live shows, even throwing in some choreographed dance moves to make the performance as much for them as for their audiences.
