Timo Maas 'Loud' album

Self-styled purveyor of percussive wet funk', Timo Maas releases his first album on Kinetic Records/Hope Recordings. It coincides with his much anticipated and awaited follow-up single to Der Schieber which reached the lower escholons of the UK charts back in March. UBIK (the new single) features the Beck-esq vocals of Martin Bettinghaus and if the hype surrounding this track is to be devoured, then will be a radio and chart certainty. Funky, weird, alternative and unforgivingly unique.

Producer and remixer of more than 85 productions in three years, including classics like Orinoko's Mama Konda and his snarling snare-driven mix of Doom's Night by Azzido Da Bass, prolific he may be, but creatively spent he ain't. Indeed if you've set foot inside a niterie recently, the chances are you'll have got down to one of Timo's percussive productions - as well as Hope Recordings and current label Perfecto, he's also recorded for Hooj Choons, FFRR and Bush. Timo's been doing this for years now and a concise round-up of his finer moments had been called for by clubbers, DJ's and music aficionado's alike. MUSIC FOR THE MAASES is Timo's retrospective production anthology. It takes in older and seriously overlooked moments like Killin' Me whilst keeping the vibes bang up to date with Der Schieber and his much loved and crossed over remix anthem, Dooms Night.

Now a bi-monthly resident at New York's TWILO club alongside Sasha, Digweed, Deep Dish, Carl Cox and Van Dyk, Timo has become one of the biggest DJ's in the world. He has been spinning non-stop this year in Australia, Israel, Asia, Ibiza and virtually every corner of the UK. He's a regular at Gatecrasher, Slinky, Elements, Turnmills, Lush, Cream, and the Space to touch on a few.

It was Timo's residency at The Tunnel in Hamburg (1994-96), at the time one of the biggest clubs in Germany, that marked his breakthrough. Producing the "aggressive trance" record Die Herdplatte with resident Gary D, the track won him universal acclaim, and led to his current involvement with Bristol-based hope recordings. Soon he was booked everywhere from Lakota in Bristol to Energy Parade in Switzerland - and has since gone on to DJ everywhere from Germany's Love Parade to London's Turnmills and Chicago's Karma. Yet it was the genre defining Mama Konda, recorded in 1997 at Time Tools Studios under the incarnation Orinoko, that caused the biggest stir in the dance fraternity. A standard in the boxes of every DJ from Morales to Sasha, Mama Konda was a percussive floorslayer that cemented Timo's reputation as the hottest kid on the block, reaching the Top 20 in both UK and US club charts.

Timo's remixes have been garnering acclaim from all quarters, from his mixes of Lustral's Everytime (Hooj) and Big Ron's Let The Freak (Perfecto) to Dooms Night by Azzido Da Bass - "the mix that pulls together all the different pigeonholes in the UK scene right now," according to one dance magazine.

Timo is putting the finishing touches to his debut artist album, set for release later this year. And still he finds time to DJ all over the world, every day of the week.
