Sounding more Detroit than Stockholm, Up Hygh, the new wonder-kid hip-hop/soul production duo, consisting of Pure-P and Rick Skizzo, are poised, at the ripe age of 19, to literally reinvent the “swedish sound”, and put Scandinavia squarely on the map on par with uber-talented underground production teams like the Ummah, Sa-Ra Creative Partners, and Platinum Pied Pipers. Up Hygh’s unique sound is a pressure-cooked mixture of sexy deepspace funk, soulful r&b, and raw, dirty hip-hop. And that’s just scratching the surface. The buzz has already begun to spread with their hot promos getting regular spins by notable selectors like Gilles Peterson, Benji-B, Bobbito, Vadim, Jazzanova and Richy Pitch. With the release of their debut single “Love Dat / The Gift” in Mya of 2005, they have already delivered a challenge to up the ante. How hygh? Up up to the sky…

    Up Hygh

Up Hygh’s highly anticipated debut album, Venus, features a stellar list of guests including Planet Asia, Little Brother, Eska, ADL, Bas-1, Aaron Phiri, Melo, Linn and Black Fist.

    Biography

Up Hygh consists of the two producers, songwriters, mc:s and dj:s Pure P and Rick Skizzo, both determent to engage the retroactive elements of soul-music with the futuristic styles of hip hop and rnb. Both Pure and Rick were born and raised in the regions around Stockholm (Sweden) and met each other in school as they studied music production. After collaborating on numerous different recording-projects it felt natural for them to team up officially under one name. Thanks to "the godfather of funk" Damon Frost of Hearin' Aid, the young duo learned to understand about MPC:s, sound-engineering and early p-funk type music. This started the evolution of what Up Hygh is today. Crusty 12-bit handclaps in an un-quantized manner around deep b-lines that makes the systems peak. Semi-organic, semi-electronic, semi-retro, semi-futuristic.

Despite the low age of only 20 years, their unquestionable dedication to their work has already been recognised due to the high rotation of their first single “Love Dat” around the worlds' radio-stations and clubs. Among their fans we find well known tastemakers and dj:s like Benji-B (BBC 1xtra), Gilles Peterson (BBC), Bobbito (New York), Jazzanova (Berlin) and Mr Scruff (Ninja Tune) to name a few. With a wide spectrum of different affiliated vocalists, they beam the listeners towards their debut album “Venus”. The album features a long list of highly respected US and European guest vocalists like Little Brother, Planet Asia, Eska, ADL, Aaron Phiri (Hearin’ Aid), Melo, Linn etc. The future for this dynamic duo is to say the least…sparkling bright!
