Recognized simply by the sound of his powerful, raw, spiritual and emotional voice, Urban Mystic will share his thoughts, his soul, and his dreams in his third SoBe Entertainment-released album GR III: Old School 2 Nu Skool on March 31, 2009. The official new single “Main Squeeze” featuring Yung Joc offers a radio-friendly thump, balanced with the true-school taste of how deeply affecting the young singer’s talent is.
At only 24-years-old, Urban Mystic’s incredible soulfulness has already made a lasting impression that tugs at the heart strings of all of his fans, especially women. The Fort Lauderdale-born Minister’s son takes a progressive approach to organic soul music, lacing every track with an intense, heartfelt connection to the listener. Urban Mystic galvanizes R&B, Hip Hop and classic Soul beautifully and effortlessly without losing his gospel roots.
Urban Mystic has been heralded by fans and critics alike, with respected publications such as USA Today (3 out of 4 stars) and Billboard Magazine touting him as a shining star on the horizon. AOL Music describes him as “A guy who is street without forsaking his soul to the streets.”
Urban Mystic’s 2004 KayGee-produced hit single “Where Were You?” quickly resonated at urban radio upon its release, and is still a recurrent tune to this day. The video for the song enjoyed rotation at BET, MTV Jams, and hundreds of video outlets across the country. The popularity of “Where Were You” from the debut album Ghetto Revelations established Urban Mystic as a vocalist to be reckoned with.
His selection as the 2004 Miami Music Awards’ “Best New Artist” was early proof of Urban Mystic’s bright future. He followed with the 2005 single “It’s You” featuring Paul Wall, and released Ghetto Revelations 2 in 2006, garnering even more attention for his stellar vocals.
As the third installment of his Ghetto Revelations saga, GR III: Old School 2 Nu Skool promises to keep his longtime fans happy with mainstay Urban Mystic tunes like “Can’t Stop, Won’t Stop,” “Spread Your Wings,” “2 Good 2 B True” and “Best Part of the Day.” He will undoubtedly also bring new fans to the table with fresh tracks like “Main Squeeze” featuring Yung Joc and “I’m So Fly” featuring Reggae giants Ce’Cile and Beenie Man. Urban Mystic also has some crowd-pleasing duets with his label mate, the lovely musician and vocal sensation Phyllisia.
Urb, as friends affectionately call him, also offers up some club-friendly favorites like “Let’s Go Shawty” and “Lean With Me.” True to the Ghetto Revelations series, GR III is a well-rounded project that listeners will fall in love with.
Urban Mystic’s multidimensional talents reach beyond his raspy, Southern-style vocals. He writes, plays piano and utilizes his distinctive rap/sing delivery to his full advantage. “I’m looking forward to showing my fans several sides of me, and giving all of them more to appreciate about me,” he says. “With part three of my ‘Ghetto Revelations’ musical journey recorded on this album, they will hear old school to new school R&B, they will hear raw Soul, they will get club bangers, and they will experience the real street side of me.”
Those who have witnessed Urban Mystic’s live show can attest to his charismatic, soulful flow, especially when accompanied by his eight-piece band. The five musicians and three back-up singers were selected, choreographed and rehearsed by renowned R&B music legend, and fellow Floridian, Betty Wright. While on tour with Angie Stone, Urban Mystic’s unforgettable performances blew audiences away night after night.
Simply put, Urban Mystic is “the truth”... the most distinctive new voice in urban music today. GR III: Old School 2 Nu Skool will set him apart as the uniquely true vocal stylist and accomplished musician that he is.
