Hailing from the likes of Utah, Texas, Alabama and Idaho, Uzi & Ari are as much an amalgamation of sundry musical genres as they are a geographical montage. Singer and songwriter for the band, Ben Shepard builds craftworks of cuisenarted beats coupled by tap-yourfoot pop melodies that drape over saturated guitars and gloomy pianos. Shepard has configured a live band to deliver the material on the road this summer with help from Cade Thalman on guitar, Catherine Worsham playing bass, and Andrew Glassett on drums.

Ten songs comprise the recently completed sophomore record for the group released in April of this year, which preceded their first US tour. The music is pensive; sleepy and yet synergistically energetic while maintaining a cohesive aesthetic. The band formed in 2003 and shortly thereafter released an EP entitled “Shaking Praising Hands,” the group’s first recorded effort. Within months the band was traveling to Texas to record with record producer and percussionist for Centromatic, Matt Pence.

Their first full length, “Don’t Leave In Such A Hurry,” was released in 2005 on Crying Girl Records and received glowing reviews. It was ultimately hailed as a post-rock record fusing with shoegaze elements. On the new record, titled “It Is Freezing Out,” Uzi & Ari seem to be aiming for a broader audience with shorter song structures and weightier compositions.
