Rawkus' Soundbombing III 'Soundbombing III' album

On June 4th, Rawkus Records will set off a lyrical air raid ith the release of Soundbombing III. The first release from the freshly-inked distribution deal with MCA Records. Mixed by New York's Hot 97, DJ Cipha Sounds and LA's Power 106, mixer and Beat Junkie member, Mr. Choc, Soundbombing III offers new music from Q-Tip, Mos Def, Talib Kweli, Pharoahe Monch, The Roots, Common, Kool G Rap, The Beatnuts, Novel and many more.

The first single, "The Life" which features Styles of The Lox and Pharoahe Monch, has proven to be one of the most powerful songs to hit radio in years. Spitting over Ayatollah's grimy yet emotive track, Styles soars with unusually personal and introspective rhymes that are punctuated by Pharoahe's soulful chorus.

Soundbombing III, in it's cutting edge tradition, also features the debut of Mos Def's rock group Black Jack Johnson on "Freak Daddy." Over a gothic Rockwilder track that bangs hard with crashes and triumphant horns the freak daddy, himself, Mos Def, snarls angry raps and ragga chat to delightful results. Expected to be released in the near future, Black Jack Johnson features Bernie Worrell (Parliament-Funkadelic) on keyboards, Dr. Know (bad brains) on guitar, and Will Calhoun and Doug Wimbish (Living Colour) on drums and bass.

Longtime Missy Elliott and Timbaland affiliate Skillz, formerly Mad Skillz, comes with a neck snapping Hi Tek beat, "Crew Deep," which features Missy Elliott and Kandi formerly of Xscape. Perhaps the most eyebrow raising collaboration on Soundbombing III, is the way too funky, "Put It In the Air." Talib Kweli hooks up with west side rider DJ Quik on a contemporary style jeep beat.

Kool G Rap revisits his smash hit from last summer on "My Life"(rmx), joined by Capone-N-Noreaga in a true lyrical gangbang, the Kool Genius sets it off with murderous tongue twists. Pehaps the LP's most interesting pairing, "Yelling Away", finds Common and Talib Kweli partnered with Zap Mama. Over a playful afro-cuban shuffle the two MCs trade poems. Coupled with Zap Mama's syrupy chorus vocals, the song achieves addictive ecstasy.

All in all, Soundbombing 3 offers true hip-hop heads a refreshing look at some of their favorite MCs, while sparking interesting chemistry between unlikely pairings. Take cover, Rawkus is droppin' bombs.
