Hailing from the Phoenix area, the originally acoustic duo of Danny Godbold (keys, guitar, vocals) and James Mulhern (guitar, percussion, vocals), aka What Laura Says, began documenting their stories through musical form, recording track after track of sweet melodies and multi-part vocal harmonies, resulting in a raw and honest sound.
The two dubbed their project, “What Laura Says Thinks and Feels” (eventually shortening it to its current incarnation) and in 2006, added drummer Greg Muller, bassist Mitch Freedom, and percussionist and overall weird shit player Jacob Woolsey.
After broadening their approach to encompass the new members, What Laura Says recorded and released their first full-length in 2007. The record was met with praise from many local musicians and fans, who hailed the collection as the album of the year. Before long, word spread to Annuals’ young North Carolina-based collective called Terpsikhore, who opened their doors for an excitingly promising collaboration that will help spread their ever-evolving sound from state to province. After several talked about performances at SXSW this year, including a tribute with and for Lou Reed, the band prepares for the release of Thinks and Feels on August 19th and will be touring throughout the summer and beyond.
